Bible Study

The Disciple Bible Study is a series of intentional, in-depth, long-term Bible studies that give students the opportunity both to read and study Scripture and have their faith nourished in such a way that they are led into service and ministry. First Presbyterian Church has been blessed through the years with many Disciple classes. Currently, we have four groups meeting each week. They are:

  • Disciple III – facilitated by Alice Powers. It meets on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 in the Barksdale Room
  • Disciple IV – facilitated by Ginny and Bill Wilson. It meets on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 in the Henry Reynolds classroom
  • Jesus In the Gospels (2nd generation Disciple class) – facilitated by Clarissa Blackmore and Tina Corley. It meets on Monday evenings at 6:30 in the Henry Reynolds classroom.
  • Romans Short Course – facilitated by John Powers. It meets on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 in the Henry Reynolds classroom.

The Listening for God Study group reads short stories and seeks to hear what literature can tell us about religion and faith. The Listening for God collection of short stories and essays was compiled and edited by Paula J. Carlson and Peter S. Hawkins. According to the authors, “the challenge is to pay attention everywhere. Listening for God is intended to help readers investigate how life and faith merge in surprising ways and places. Contemporary American literature may not be the most predictable place to listen for God, but it may well turn out to be one of the most rewarding.”
This informal group of about a dozen women meets on the third Thursday of the month (excluding summer). The facilitated discussion is followed by video segments that offer insights from and about the short-story authors. New members and non-members are always welcome.

“Experiencing God through Bible Study” meets Thursdays 4:00-5:30 in the Henry Reynolds room. We are beginning a new study of Nehemiah’s faith and perseverance in rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. Everyone is welcome to come and join our group of seven in this inspiring study led by Rev. Ann Lindsey and Nancy Wilson.
