Peggy Hammett
Director of Christian Education
Believing that all people, regardless of age, should learn God's word, the Christian
Education program at First Presbyterian focuses on all ages. Sunday School begins at
10:00 AM every Sunday morning for children and adults. The curriculum for pre-school
through middle school is Walk With Me from Faith Alive Christian Resources.
This is the first year that we have used it. Why did we choose it?
Because it is Biblical, reformed, easy to use, grows faith, fun, builds community,
and celebrates diversity.
All teachers have spent time in a workshop with Peggy Hammett and have been trained
in different aspects of the curriculum. The CE committee and the Sunday School faculty
seems to be very pleased with the choice.
The Senior High class uses the FCA Bible study and occasionally joins with the adult classes
for a special study. Adult studies include two classes of The Present Word and four
elective classes.

Faith...Pass it on.
It is our belief that it is our responsibility to pass on the faith to all of God's
children - no matter their age. We have tried to empower all to learn about the wonderful
gifts that God has given to us. Our education program attempts to teach everyone to try to
live their life as Jesus taught. We are "passing on the faith" not only in our teaching, but
also in our actions. Our guiding Scripture has been, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love,
joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."
Galatians 5:22, 23.

Children's Communion Preparation Class
According to the Book of Order, "The invitation to the Lord's Supper is extended to all who
have been baptized...Children who are being nurtured and instructed in the significance of the
invitation to the Table and the meaning of their response are invited to receive the Lord's
Supper, recognizing that their understanding of participation will vary according to their
maturity." The annual communion preparation class will be Thursday evening, March 31, at 5:30,
in the sanctuary. It is necessary for one parent to attend with his/her child. Registration
is necessary and there must be at least five children in order for the class to be held.
Sign up is in Ms. Peggy's office. Children will be presented to the Session and recognized by
the congregation on Sunday, April 3rd, at the 11:00 service.
ALPHA PROGRAM BEGINS AT FIRST PRESBYTERIAN
What is ALPHA? It is an opportunity for anyone to explore the meaning of life from a
Christian perspective. It is relaxed, low key, friendly, and fun. Ask anything!
ALPHA is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile. Each week we will gather
for about two hours. We will share an informal meal, listen to a talk on how Christianity
approaches the question at hand and then gather into small groups for discussion.
We will meet on Sunday evenings from 5:45-7:30 and child care will be provided.
Classes begin February 13 and will continue each Sunday until April 3.
Registration is required. Come join us!! The number of participants is limited to 5
CE INTERNS
If you are a college student (at least a rising sophomore) you might be interested in
applying for one of two paid intern positions. The interns will work with and under the
direct supervision of Peggy Hammett, DCE, and will plan and implement the children's summer
program. If you are interested, pick up an application from the Christian Education office.
Members will be given first priority.
ANNUAL EASTER EGG HUNT WILL BE April 23
This year the Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Celebration will be held at the home of Darrell,
Tamara, David, and Michael McLeod. All the young families (and a few grandparents) will
gather for fun and fellowship. This is a great opportunity for a few "Kodak moments"!!
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL WILL BE JULY 11-15
The director this year is Liza Logan and the co-director is Beth Justesen.
Mark your calendar so your children don't miss this fun week with the Christian Education
volunteers!!
