Believing that all people, regardless of age, should learn God's word, the Christian Education program focuses on all ages. First Presbyterian Church has Sunday School at 10:00 AM every Sunday morning for children and adults. The curriculum for elementary children is L.I.F.E. (Living In Faith Everyday) from CRC. The Bible stories are familiar and there is emphasis each week on a particular verse for the children to learn. This is the third year that we have used L.I.F.E. and the teachers and children seem to like it very much. The Middle School youth continue to use Bible Quest. The Senior High class uses the FCA Bible study and occasionally joins with the adult classes for a special study. Adult studies include two classes of Present Word and four elective classes.

LET YOUR LIFE SPEAK
Every year the Christian Education department develops a theme for the year. This year we took a huge risk and decided to give a really big gift to the congregation. Our theme for 2007-2008 is Let Your Life Speak and it is based on the Scriptural reference from I John 3:1, 18 - "See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God... Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action."
Robbin Goforth and Chris Salter developed beautiful visual representations of the theme and the CE committee worked on a "Scripture calendar" for the congregation. All CE committee members gave their favorite Bible verses. Peggy Hammett, DCE, took those verses and many more and compiled a complete "verse for the day" for the 2007-2008 CE year. This was truly a Spirit led project that was Divinely inspired from the beginning. It is the hope of the CE committee that everyone will begin each day with a Bible verse that can be carried throughout their daily Christian walk. Perhaps our lives will be changed just a little bit. Maybe others will see God's love through us as we "Let Our Lives Speak."

CELEBRATION SUNDAY KICKS OFF THE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION YEAR WITH A "BANG!"
Celebration Sunday is traditionally a time to promote the children to their new classes. The Christian Education Committee started the morning of August 26th with a delicious continental breakfast cooked by the "world famous chefs" of First Presbyterian Church. After breakfast everyone went into the sanctuary. The children were promoted and left for their new classes. After the theme for the year was revealed, the adults were encouraged to tour the newly renovated Alexander Hall building. All Christian Education volunteers were installed and commissioned at the 11:00 worship service. The morning was a tremendous success with over 350 children and adults in attendance.
That afternoon the entire congregation was invited to attend the annual church wide picnic at Camp Fellowship. Men and women, boys and girls of all ages and sizes gathered around 4:00. Games, boating, skiing, and fabulous food were enjoyed by the crowd as we celebrated the successful "launch" of the CE year for 2007-2008.
