OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE

In addition to your prayers and financial contributions, there are many charities and agencies supported by First Presbyterian that also need your physical presence. Some of these opportunities are listed below:

GREENWOOD SOUP KITCHEN: Volunteers to assist with preparing and serving the Friday meal are needed year around. Contact Phyllis Zuehlke at 864 223-5915.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: You don't have to be a carpenter. Volunteers of all types and skill levels are needed on a varying schedule. Contact HFH Project Office at 864 223-9399.

GREENWOOD LITERACY COUNCIL: Tutors are needed to help instruct basic reading, generally one-to-one for a few hours a week. Instruction will be provided. Contact the Literacy Council at 864 223-1303.

BOWERS-RODGERS HOME: Volunteers are needed both at the home and at the Resale Store.
Call 864 223-1240.

THE BLOOD CONNECTION: First Presbyterian cooperates with The Blood Connection to replace needed blood free to the immediate family of members if 25 % of the active membership contributes. At a contribution level of 50%, blood will be replaced for extended family members anywhere in the country. New equipment allows for quicker collection of whole blood, plus platelets.
Contact the Blood Connection, 1224 Spring Street, at 864 227-8333.

MEG'S HOUSE: Volunteers to help with shelter monitoring are needed. This position will require training and a background check. Other volunteers are needed to provide transportation for clients to social services and doctor's appointments, assist with yard work at the House, baby sit for clients who need to go to court, sort and size clothing contributions. Also gardeners needed for their community garden Plant-a-Row for the Hungry. Contact them at 864 227-1421.

GREATER GREENWOOD UNITED MINISTRIES Needs intake workers and others to help.
Their office is at 1404 Edgefield Street. Contact Dan Flint at 864 942-0500.

GREENWOOD COMMUNITY CHILDREN'S CENTER has many varied opportunities for volunteers to serve the children of the community. These include being a mentor for new parents, providing child care while parents are in support groups and making blue ribbons for Child Abuse Prevention Month in April. To volunteer contact Brenda Edwards at 864 941-8170. Their office is at 113 Liner Drive.

FIRST PRESBYTERIAN / SALVATION ARMY FOOD PANTRY PARTNERSHIP needs volunteers to help with either warehouse sorting or stocking food, or in the food pantry bagging food. A "pool" of volunteers will permit flexible schedules to assist a minimum of 1-2 hours per month to a maximum of 1-2 hours per week.
If you can help, please call David Hyde at 864-223-1160.

MEALS ON WHEELS: Drivers are needed to deliver meals to homebound persons.
Call 864-223-2233 to volunteer.

HOSPICECARE of the Piedmont: Full and part time volunteers are needed to work with patients after training or for administrative duties. Contact Volunteer Coordinator Sandra James at 864-227-9393.

Greenwood Pals Mentors: There is an ever continuing and growing need for PALS Mentors adult volunteers who will give of themselves. There are many young people who have been referred and are waiting for someone to care. It requires little additional time since you are encouraged to simply include the youth in activities you would be doing anyway. Contact Neil Crisp or Cindy Martini at 864 229-6889.
