 A Wonderful Time in Prison
(If That Is Possible)

On Thursday, Larry, Wayne and I entered the prison to meet the 30 young men who would
accompany us through a four-day weekend in which we would introduce them to Jesus Christ and
would talk about what it means to live for Him. The attitudes changed quickly from fear and
animosity to friendship and trust. By Saturday, we knew each other by first names and we
would put our arms around the shoulders of the one next to us as we prayed and sang the
blessing over our food. Saturday evening they were given their bags containing letters
from all who had written them, note cards and special wishes. The tears flowed and the
Kleenex were used by men who had never cried in their lives. They didn't mind the chaplains
seeing it as we were the only ones allowed in the room at this time. On Sunday, they all
took the crosses that we offered in the closing ceremony and stated their intentions to
return with us. The ceremony was watched by about 200 other inmates who had been through the
program and were allowed to attend. There is no other time when so many are allowed to
gather in one place showing the trust of the officials in this program.
You have all been a part of this weekend. You provided the prayer names on the prayer
wheels, the prayers, the cookies and you helped to pay for all of the supplies that we used
to attract so many to the program. It costs about $6,000 to run the program and you supplied
a large portion of it. Truly you have helped in a wonderful way to introduce men who had
never heard the words, "I love you and Christ loves you" to the Lord.
May God continue to bless you in your service to Him.
